Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters Encampment Purpose

The purpose of encampment is for each cadet to:

  • Develop leadership skills

  • Investigate aerospace sciences and related careers

  • Commit to a habit of regular exercise

  • Solidify their moral character

Summer Encampment (Type A) is a weeklong program designed for Civil Air Patrol cadets in Phase I and II of the cadet program. Encampment completion is a requirement for the Mitchell Award (which signifies successful completion of Phase II of the Cadet Program) and consideration for participation on Regional Cadet Leadership School (RCLS) and National Cadet Special Activities (NCSAs).

Tri-Wing Encampment is typically held in Maryland

The mission of Tri-Wing Encampment is to engage cadets and develop their leadership skills in an intense military environment. Cadets are able to learn more about careers in aerospace and military service, participate in physical fitness training intended to encourage camaraderie and developing a habit of regular exercise, and focus on character development in a leadership setting. Cadets will also be given opportunities to participate in activities including team building exercises, orientation flights, leadership courses, and emergency services training. (Activities may vary year to year and at times are dependent on availability).

Interested applicants must be Civil Air Patrol members who have completed their first promotion (the Curry Achievement) and have their squadron commander’s permission to attend.
